A couple of hours before sunset, we’ll reach Punta del Hidalgo, where a dramatic Atlantic coastline will be our playground for sunset photography. The location offers a wide range of photographic compositions and perspectives, making it ideal for both landscape photography and aerial photography.
🌌 If sky conditions allow, our journey continues to Minas de San José, where it feels like being on Mars—a lava field shaped by volcanic eruption. The location offers excellent opportunities for landscape and astrophotography, with strong compositions combining lava textures, wildflowers, and the Milky Way.
📍Day 4
🌄 Above the clouds & Teide Caldera
After a relaxed morning and some free time, our Canary Island Photo Tour continues with a sunset at one of Tenerife’s most beautiful viewpoints, waiting for the sun to set above the cloud layer.

Photography Skill Level Required
This workshop is open to photographers of all levels, from beginners to advanced. Whether you are just starting out or already experienced, the itinerary and guidance are adapted to support your level.
The only requirement is an interest in landscape and night photography, along with a willingness to spend time outdoors shooting from sunset into the night under the Canary Islands skies.
Physical Fitness Requirements
No special fitness level is required. The workshop includes short, easy walks to reach photographic locations in safe and accessible volcanic environments.
Weather Conditions on a Canary Islands Photography Tour
In early June, the Canary Islands generally offer stable and mild weather, although temperatures can vary significantly between coastal areas and high-altitude locations.
Along the coast, daytime temperatures typically range between 20–26°C (68–79°F), with pleasant evenings and generally calm conditions.
Most photography sessions take place at high altitude, between 2,000 and 2,400 meters (6,500–7,900 ft), in both Tenerife (Teide National Park) and La Palma (Roque de los Muchachos). At these elevations, temperatures are much cooler and can drop quickly after sunset, especially during Milky Way sessions.
Night temperatures in these volcanic mountain environments typically range from 5–10°C (41–50°F), with possible wind chill depending on conditions. The contrast between warm coastal weather and cooler, exposed mountain locations is a defining feature of photography in the Canary Islands.
Layered clothing is essential for night sessions above the cloud layer, where conditions can feel significantly colder after sunset.
What Clothing & Gear Should You Bring?
Proper outdoor clothing is essential for this Canary Islands photography adventure.
During the day, temperatures are usually warm and comfortable, especially in coastal areas. A T-shirt, light clothing, and shorts are often sufficient until sunset. We strongly recommend hiking shoes or boots with good grip, as many locations feature volcanic terrain, lava fields, and uneven ground.
For night photography and high-altitude locations between 2,000 and 2,400 meters (6,500–7,900 ft), a layered clothing system is highly recommended.
We suggest:
🩳 Base Layer: Merino wool or moisture-wicking layers
🧥 Mid Layer: Fleece or light insulated jacket
🥶 Outer Layer: Light or medium-weight down parka for night photography sessions
👢 Footwear: Hiking boots or shoes with good grip
🧤 Accessories: Warm hat, buff/neck gaiter, lightweight gloves
With the right clothing, you’ll stay comfortable from warm coastal sunsets to cool Milky Way sessions above the clouds.
Will Post-Processing & Editing Sessions Be Included?
Yes. Post-processing, image review, and dedicated editing sessions are fully included in the workshop.
A major focus of the course is astrophotography post-processing, with a complete start-to-finish workflow for Milky Way photography. You will learn how to capture and process the Milky Way in the field, followed by advanced editing techniques to extract maximum detail and color using software such as Photoshop and dedicated plugins.
We will also cover H-Alpha data capture for nebulae and how to blend H-Alpha with RGB frames in Photoshop, creating more detailed and refined astrophotography images with enhanced structure and color separation.
These sessions will help you:
🛠️ Build a complete start-to-finish editing workflow for both landscape and astrophotography images
🌌 Master Milky Way editing workflows, from raw file to final image
🔴 Learn how to capture H-Alpha data and blend it with RGB images in Photoshop
🎨 Improve detail extraction, color balance, and overall image quality
📚 Develop advanced post-processing skills to elevate your astrophotography portfolio
Hands-on guidance throughout ensures you leave the workshop with professional-quality images and a solid understanding of advanced editing workflows for night and landscape photography.
Recommended Camera Gear for the Canary Night Photography Workshop
Equipment
📸 Digital Camera – DSLR or mirrorless with full manual controls
🏔️ Sturdy Tripod – essential for long exposures in low light and volcanic environments
⏱️ Remote Shutter Release – useful for maximum sharpness during long exposures
🚁 Drone (optional) – ideal for aerial views of coastal cliffs and volcanic landscapes (always follow local regulations)
🔭 Star tracker to get the most out of the Canary Islands night sky
⸻
Recommended Lenses
🌄 Wide-Angle Lens (14–24mm / 16–35mm) – ideal for dramatic landscapes, wild flowers, waterfalls, and Milky Way compositions
A fast prime lens is highly recommended (14–20mm f/1.8) for capturing the Milky Way with maximum detail when not using a star tracker
🔭 If using a star tracker, lenses can be less fast, such as f/2.8
📷 For detail work, a 50mm or 85mm prime lens can be used to capture tighter compositions of the Milky Way core, allowing for high-detail results, especially with panoramic stitching and mosaic techniques
⸻
Optional Gear
🛠️ ND, GND, polarizers
🔋 Extra batteries
🧽 Lens cloths

How to Organize Your Photography Gear & Backpack
During the workshop, you won’t need to constantly reorganize your camera bag, as most locations are close to the van. You can also leave extra clothing in the vehicle and pick it up at the next stop if needed.
How to Manage Your Luggage During the Workshop
Each participant should bring:
🧳 A rigid hard-shell suitcase (not a soft bag)
