Exploring the Arctic

An incredible week where for five nights we danced under the magic of the Northern Lights!
In March the days start to get longer and the sun starts to heat up!

The lofoten islands, an archipelago located inside the Arctic circle unique for its dramatic landscapes.
Majestic snow capped peaks stand out in the middle of the sea creating enchanted fjords.
The typical red villages that create a fairytale atmosphere by thinning the line between reality and magic.
At night the Arctic pink colors turn green, illuminated by the Northern Lights.
If these islands enchant you during the day, during the night they steal your heart!
If you want to experience this dream, we invites you to join one of our Arctic photography trips!

These islands are connected to each other by bridges and tunnels under the water, this allows us to reach all the spots easily and capture sunrises, sunsets, stars and of course the magical Aurora Borealis!
In the islands there aren’t big cities and with a few minutes by car you can reach really dark places, where you can admire the northern lights in all their spending.
In these islands the weather can be very crazy, it can change many times in an hour, which makes landscape photography even more interesting.
It’s a real paradise for landscape photographers!

This trip was planned down to the smallest detail to be the right place at the right time based on the weather and the month of the year.

Day 1

Arrive at our seaside villa in Napp from Evenes airport with our 9 seater van.

The villa was simply incredible, it had a huge window with the sea in front and a garden all around. The location was really strategic, in the heart of Lofoten, with an hour’s drive you could reach the most beautiful spots both north and south.

As soon as we arrived, not even the time to arrange the suitcases and a beautiful Aurora had exploded above us!
What a start tour gift!
We immediately took all the cameras and started shooting from our garden, the magic had begun! I was screaming exif and how to focus on the stars, I knew that during the first Aurora it was very difficult to focus on the reflex.

Day 2

After 3 hours of sleep we went to have our first sunrise at Uttakleiv beach, in front of the famous dragon’s eye, one of the craziest foregrounds here.

After breakfast we left for the fairy tale, the area of Hamnøy, Sakrisøy and Reine!

Seeing the amazement of the guys when they see these places is always great!

A mythical fish burger, the best in Norway, among the yellow houses of Sakrisøy is a must and always very welcome stop.

After reaching the last and fantastic village in the southern tip of the islands, that of Å, we went to wait for the sunset at Skagsanden beach!

During the night the sky was clear but it was the only night of the whole week that the Aurora did not show!
We enjoyed our home with a good dinner and recovered a few hours of sleep preparing for another long and magical day.

Day 3

This is a moody and dramatic day, in Lofoten this mood is never wrong!

We immediately went to Vareid to catch the waves and a nice dramatic scene which the group loved!

During the day we went to places that exalt dramatic photos, and went to Hamnøy to capture the blue hour.

After dinner the sky suddenly opened as planned and a beautiful evening under the Aurora awaited us!
We were on Skagsanden beach amidst the group’s shouts of joy!

Day 4

A great sunny day where we took the opportunity to do some hikes. We reached a viewpoint on a hill above Sakrisøy’s fairytale yellow village. From up there the view is crazy, a true fairy tale, you can see the three most enchanted villages, that of Reine, that of Sakrisøy and that of Hamnøy.

Continuing to enjoy the sun we reached the waterfalls near the village of Å, with a short but not easy hike due to the snow in some parts of the path.
This place gives its best in autumn, where everything turns red but, with the sun star in front of us it was truly a charm!

We waited for the right position of the sun near the mountain to take some shots and get the sun star.

That night the Aurora made us wait for a long time, it seemed to have vanished but, around 4am it exploded into the sky giving us a magenta and green show above our house. I immediately started the van and reached the beach closest to our house, that of Myrland.

Day 5

Retracing the most beautiful spots in search of the best light, with inevitable stops such as that of Nusfjord. The fjord where time stopped many years ago and its café that best represents it.

We finally found Skagsanden beach at low tide and the beach texture looked the best. A glory for the foregrounds of our photos!

Still no one imagined that the two craziest nights were yet to come and it was the last two!

What a show guys in Skagasend beach! A dance that lasted at least an hour, maybe even longer!
The dragon was everywhere, everyone was running from one side to the other screaming excitedly and I screaming: shoot !!!

Day 6

After a crazy and long night we rested a few more hours, had a nice breakfast, put our bags in the van and left to reach the city of Harstad, not far from Evenes airport, where we spent the last night.

On the way we stopped in the charming village of Henningsvær, always charming and picturesque, especially on a sunny day with blue skies.
After having lunch in a typical Norwegian restaurant and visiting the most famous football field in Norway, we left.

As soon as we reached our downtown hotel, I checked the charts and the Aurora was coming, the solar wind was negative and all parameters were on our side!
Guys 30 minutes and we leave the hotel ahaha! Prepare the sandwiches!

I took the guys to enjoy the last green night in a really remote and wild place, we finished in a great way! What a magic!

Day 7

Return home from Evenes airport.
