Finnish Lapland Winter Adventure

Finnish Lapland offers some of the most breathtaking winter landscapes on Earth.
If you love snow-covered forests, frozen rivers carving their way through the land, icy details shaping the scenery, and the thrill of riding a snowmobile across endless white hills, this winter wonderland is the perfect destination for your next photography adventure.

Immersed in pristine Finnish landscapes and deeply connected to Sámi culture, the line between reality and magic feels incredibly thin here. For one full week, time seems to slow down — as if the outside world no longer exists.
This is exactly the spirit behind every GoToPhotoTour experience: living a truly magical journey while capturing powerful and unforgettable landscape photographs.

The Landscapes of Finnish Lapland

In January, the sun stays low on the horizon, offering soft orange and magenta light from sunrise to sunset — a dream scenario for landscape photographers. This gentle glow filters through snow-covered forests and frozen rivers, creating depth, contrast, and atmosphere that are simply impossible to find elsewhere.

As afternoon fades, night arrives quickly, and with it the chances to photograph the Northern Lights increase dramatically.

This is exactly how our Lapland Winter Photo Tour began — with the Aurora Borealis dancing across a star-filled sky, reflected in a frozen river surrounded by icy trees. A moment none of us will ever forget.

During this photography journey, we explored some of the most scenic areas of southeastern Finnish Lapland, around the iconic village of Ruka.
The nearby national parks — Kuntivaara and Riistunturi — were without a doubt among the most impressive locations of the trip. These parks offered perfect settings to photograph the famous frozen trees, the so-called “white giants,” standing tall against the Arctic sky and creating powerful, minimalist winter compositions.

If winter landscapes inspire you and photographing the Aurora Borealis is high on your photography bucket list, our Arctic photo tours are not to be missed. These journeys are designed for photographers who want to experience wild northern environments while capturing the magic of the night sky dancing above untouched landscapes.
